Preparing your Items for Consignment
You did it! You've finally decided to go through your closets! Now what?? Don't fret, it just takes a little bit of organization, you got this! There are a few things you need to do beforehand. We unfortunately can’t accept everything so ask yourself these questions before bringing an item into M.S.C for consignment:
Is my clothing from a designer label, better department or specialty store?
We are committed to providing you top quality clothing items and home furnishings so we like to accept higher-end brands and accessories because we want to give you the best options for quality apparel at an affordable price. Look for labels such as Calvin Klein, Free People, Anthropology, Nordstrom labels, Gerry Weber, Nine West, Michael Kors, Coach, Kenneth Cole, Roots, Under Armour, Lululemon and similar brands. These labels sell.
In addition we also take more casual wear from Northern Reflections, Anne Taylor, Melanie Lyne, Reitman’s, J.Crew and like brands as long as they’re trendy - not everyone desires designer labels but everyone loves what makes them feel good and comfort is what's in!
Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful!
In saying that, there are brands we don't accept, these would be Walmart, Giant Tiger, Garage, Beechers Brook, Inwear, SWS and like labels - we are also not a supporter or "fast fashion" brands, these tend to have a short life span and end up in the landfills 😕
So ask yourself - Is my item in like-new condition?
Your item should look like new. We sell items that you could wear right out of the store, we know, it happens often! Please bring in items that are three seasons or newer. Just like you, our shoppers are savvy and want to find great deals in trendy styles, and this applies to home décor pieces too. If your item is missing anything (buttons, zippers, etc.) or has any stains, we unfortunately will not be able to accept it. When in doubt, ask yourself…would I buy this if I saw it in the store?
Is my clothing item washed, pressed and on a hanger?
Who doesn't love clean, fresh smelling clothes! Nobody wants to purchase stale, wrinkly clothes. Give your freshly washed item a good ironing or steaming before consignment to ensure that it looks brand new! Clothes, accessories, and home furnishings are more likely to sell if they are well presented and look neat. People like to envision purchases on themselves or in their homes, so give them a fresh canvas to use their imaginations!
Items are inspected again after the initial consignment to ensure they meet our standards, If we do discover item damage that was overlooked, we will either call you to pick up (higher end labels only) or donate the item to charity. Taking the time to assess and prepare your consignment items will help you successfully consign your clothes and get them sold faster, which will put money in your pocket, make room in your closet, PLUS make you feel great knowing you are helping to improve environmental sustainability!
